Draw Dominoes

These guides describe the rules implemented here. Other editions and clubs may use different variants. The worked examples are checked against this site's game logic.

Draw Dominoes

Empty your hand by matching domino ends. This is a single-hand draw game for individuals, without partnership scoring or a multi-hand points target.

Set up the table

Use the 28 distinct double-six tiles, including blanks. Two or three players receive seven tiles each; four receive six each. Keep the rest in the hidden boneyard. The rotating starter may lead any tile.

On your turn

Attach one tile to either open end with equal touching values. The game reverses its orientation when necessary. If you have no match, draw one tile at a time until you can play. Pass only if no match exists and the boneyard is empty.

Winning and ending

An empty hand wins immediately. If everyone passes consecutively, count the pips left in each hand: lowest total wins, with shared victory for ties.

Worked example

Synthetic finish: the chain is [2|3] and your only tile is [3|6]. Attach it on the right, exposing 6. Your hand is empty, so you win.

A common mistake

A double is still part of the same line; it does not create extra branches.

Questions at the table

Must the first tile be a double?

No. The starting player may choose any tile here.

Can I draw instead of playing a match?

No. Drawing is offered only when your hand has no legal placement.
