Clear matching pairs from a layered table. This is Mahjong Solitaire, a tile-removal puzzle, not the four-player draw-and-discard game with melds and scoring hands.

Set up the table
Play solo or with up to eight cooperating players. The board contains 68 tiles: seventeen selected traditional faces, four copies each, arranged over three layers. New layouts have a verified clearing sequence.
On your turn
A tile is free when nothing covers it and at least one horizontal side is open on its layer. Select two identical free faces and confirm. Players may select simultaneously; each pair is removed as one action.
Winning and ending
Clear every tile for a shared victory. Personal pair counts show contributions, not a competition between partners.
Worked example
Synthetic two-player finish: only two identical tiles remain, side by side on the bottom layer at (1,1,1) and (2,1,1), using one-based column,row,layer. Player 2 removes them; both players win.
A common mistake
An exposed face can still be blocked on both sides. A legal pair is not necessarily the best long-term choice.
Questions at the table
Do seasons or flowers substitute?
No. This board requires identical faces and uses neither substitution rule.
What happens when no pair remains?
Recovery rearranges the remaining faces; if necessary it first restores recent pairs and adjusts contributions. Hints do not guarantee a full solution.
